At Lake Mary Prep, we’re always looking for ways to inspire our students to think differently, take on challenges, and develop skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. This year, we introduced a new elective—Outdoor Adventure & Leadership—and it’s already proving to be a signature part of what makes our school experience unique.

Learning Through Adventure
The course gives students the opportunity to step outside the walls of traditional learning and into hands-on experiences where teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving are at the core. From navigating outdoor challenges to mastering practical camping skills, students are encouraged to work together, think critically, and adapt to new situations.
Big Kids Leading Little Kids
Recently, our Outdoor Adventure & Leadership students put their new knowledge into practice in a heartwarming way. Fresh off learning how to pitch tents, they set up a miniature “campsite” for our Kindergarten classes. Once the tents were ready, they invited their younger peers inside for a cozy storytime featuring camping-themed favorites like Curious George Goes Camping.
But the fun didn’t stop there. After storytime, the older students led their Kindergarten buddies in a lively game of Duck Duck Goose, turning the afternoon into a joyful, laughter-filled memory for everyone involved.
Building Leadership and Empathy
What may have looked like just a day of fun was also a powerful lesson in leadership and empathy. By guiding and encouraging their younger peers, the Outdoor Adventure & Leadership students practiced patience, communication, and responsibility. These are the kinds of experiences that shape character, showing students that leadership isn’t only about taking charge, but also about listening, supporting, and creating connections across grade levels.
A Different Kind of Education
The Outdoor Adventure & Leadership elective is just one example of how Lake Mary Prep is setting itself apart from other schools. By offering unique electives that combine academic skills with real-world application, we are ensuring our students are not only prepared for college, but also for life. These moments of collaboration capture the spirit of community that defines our school.
At Lake Mary Prep, we believe education should spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster connections. Outdoor Adventure & Leadership is doing just that—one tent, one story, and one game at a time.
