At Lake Mary Preparatory School, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door—it grows, literally.
Over the past three years, our Middle School students have embarked on a remarkable journey aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showing what’s possible when education connects with the real world.
From their very first experience as 6th graders at the 4Roots exhibit at the Orlando Science Center to their recent Sprout to Spoon program at the 4Roots Farm Campus, LMP students are not only learning about sustainability—they are living it. These hands-on opportunities allow students to connect classroom knowledge with real-world issues, helping them develop the skills and mindset to become problem-solvers, leaders, and changemakers.
Back on campus, our 8th graders have taken this inspiration to heart by planting crops around school grounds and even designing a new garden space. This outdoor classroom will support an exciting new elective launching next year: Cultivate: Roots to Recipes. In this course, students will learn to grow, harvest, and prepare food, tying together science, sustainability, and creativity in ways that traditional classrooms rarely achieve.
Unlike many schools—especially large public schools where hands-on, personalized programs are harder to implement—Lake Mary Prep is able to provide its students with experiential, future-focused learning that prepares them for the challenges of tomorrow. Our students don’t just study sustainability from a textbook; they practice it, shape it, and lead the way toward a greener future.
This is education at its best: innovative, engaging, and impactful. It’s yet another example of how Lake Mary Prep stands apart, offering learning experiences that empower students to thrive not only academically but also as thoughtful citizens of the world.
